Safety for Supervisors course content:
• Nature of Incidents explains that all incidents happen as a result of more then one cause, and the whole HSE performance can only be improved by eliminating the root causes. It also helps to understand why it is more expensive to learn from self faults then from the ones of others. Good HSE performance is an indicator of effective business management; no wonder that companies with high HSE performance are often very profitable.
• Managing HSE shows that the HSE Policy sets the goals and the targets and HSE MS is a document which explains how they will be achieved. The three pillars of HSE MS: overall quality control, hazards and effects management process, daily integration into the business management. To achieve those targets everyone plays his own role.
• HEMP (Hazards and Effects Management Process): Module explaining HEMP process with the help of Haz&Zard Awareness tool (Risk Assessment and Management). Practical element of applying JHA tool.
• Rule of three represents systematic and infallible method of seeing the situation as a whole. Being armed with this wholesome view makes it far easier taking the “Go/Stop” decision… and concentrate on the factors (indicators) to pay attention to before the work can be proceed. The Rule of Three helps to cascade the effect of many variable parameters so that the performance capability could be maximized and the problem minimized.
• Managing unsafe acts module explains how the hazardous actions control can help supervisors to perform work safely, observing the hazardous actions, as well as how to talk effectively with the rule breakers.
• Toolbox talks module gives the overview of TBT purpose; where, when and how this to be conducted; who must participate in TBT and what are the main elements of TBT.
• Permit to work module describes the purpose of PTW system, characterizes main elements of it and situations where the use of PTW can be most effective
• Managing Rule breaking module gives the understanding of the main types of human faults whether errors, mistakes or deliberate violations and how to ensure people avoiding faults of any type…
• Improving Supervision describes different supervision styles, gives opportunity to assess personal preferences and characterizes the four basic behavioral fundamentals which help supervisors promote positive culture in HSE.
• Audits module depicts the function of audits in HSE MS, briefly describes the procedure of audit and explains the difference between audit and inspection.
